Mom Pushes for More Canopy-Covered Playgrounds

While playgrounds nowadays tend to be safer than they used to be, one mother in Baltimore’s Pigtown neighborhood said one major protectant is still missing.

Many newer parks have surfaces to cushion falls and equipment that’s made of materials that better protect children than what was used decades ago.

But Fran Levitt-Higgins wants more playgrounds in Baltimore to be like Latrobe Park in Locust Point. It’s not the fun equipment, the slides or the swings that make her feel that way. It’s the canopy that covers part of the equipment.
